Church Security in Nigeria: A Stewardship Approach
For congregations across Nigeria, gathering openly and regularly is central to worship and community life. That openness is a strength — and it is also why thoughtful security planning belongs within faithful leadership.
Security, approached well, is an act of stewardship rather than fear: it protects people, preserves the peace of worship, and gives those responsible the confidence to lead well. The aim is never to make a church feel fortified, but to help its leaders understand risk and strengthen everyday systems with quiet confidence.
What structured security looks like
A structured approach begins with listening — understanding how a congregation gathers, welcomes, administers, and serves — before any recommendation is made. A security risk and threat assessment reviews a campus, its service flow, and its financial handling, and produces a written, prioritised report. The aim is to surface practical gaps so leadership can act on clear findings rather than assumption.
Four advisory disciplines
Arete's work spans four disciplines: security risk and threat assessment; physical security design advisory; ongoing risk advisory and situational awareness briefing; and security awareness and volunteer training. Each is advisory in nature — guidance, assessment, and training — and each is shaped around how a particular congregation gathers.
Who should lead this work
A security assessment is most usefully requested by senior pastors, church boards, trustees, and administrators carrying responsibility for the safety and stewardship of their congregation. Engagements begin with a confidential conversation, and every assessment is held in confidence.
What Arete does — and does not do
Arete provides security risk advisory, assessment, and training. Arete is not a licensed private guard company, does not conduct intelligence-gathering operations, and performs no function reserved to government security or intelligence agencies. The work exists to help churches protect their people and worship with quiet confidence.
